Description
From the early 60s, an empty 4/5-quart clear glass decanter, made by Owens-Illinois Glass for bottling of Wolfschmidt Vodka at the Joseph Seagram bottling plant in Dundalk, MD. The decanter is in very nice condition, with no cracks, chips, stains or scratches. The cork on the stopper is intact. The neck label has some abrasions where the tax stamp was applied.Embossed on the base: “Federal law forbids sale or re-use of this bottle"; the Owens-Illinois (OI) logo; the Seagram's Distiller Number, D-126; the number 58 (possibly the OI permit number for Seagram bottles made in Clarion, PA), the number 62 (possibly the year of manufacture); and the number 7, possibly a mold number. Also embossed on the base is the letter-number combination "L9517" (the OI plant in Clarion was Plant #17). A variation of the Russian Imperial Coat of Arms with the two-headed eagle is imprinted with gold foil on one side of the bottle. The Coat of Arms is also embossed on two sides of the glass stopper.
This sleek, handled decanter stands approximately 12 inches tall, including the glass and cork stopper (10-1/2 inches tall without the closure). The decanter measures about 4 inches in diameter across the base. The opening at the top (and the diameter of the cork) is about 1-3/4 inches. The decanter, with the stopper, weighs 2 pounds.
This very collectible nearly 60-year-old decanter is in very nice condition, and is clean inside and out.
