An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver teapot made by Peter & Ann Bateman; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection
Description
This exceptional antique George III English Georgian sterling silver teapot has an oval form.
The plain body of this antique silver teapot is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved floral garlands, suspended from rosette decorated pensile drops.
The decoration to each side of this 18th century teapot incorporates a vacant oval cartouche, surmounted with a bright cut engraved ribbon bow design.
The upper and lower portions of the body are encircled with a band of bright cut engraved interlacing undulating decoration, incorporating star motifs and flanked with undulating wrigglework decorated borders.
This silver teapot is fitted with a hallmarked flush hinged cover, ornamented with a bright cut engraved floral spray; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.
The cover is surmounted with the original silver topped carved wood finial.
This exceptional example of antique teaware is fitted with a contemporary carved wood handle with a scrolling thumbpiece and plain sterling silver sockets.
This antique teapot is fitted with an impressive tapering spout ornamented with a simplified bright cut engraved festoon to either side.
This exceptional example of Georgian silverware was crafted by the collectable and important London silversmiths Peter & Ann Bateman.
Condition
This antique 18th century teapot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the teapot and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detraCt from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
