    Description

A four-piece sterling silver service for coffee and tea that consists of a gallery tray, a coffee pot, a sugar and a milk jar. This stunning modernist set was designed and made by William Spratling circa 1964-67, during his third design period. The model belongs to a series called "Incision line" as the surface of the piece features incised geometrical lines in contrast with rather robust forms: The swirling pattern on the tray was inspired by the Mexican endless knot, and the curvy lines on the holloware resemble drapery. Exotic wood was used as the handle and accent inlays for the finials. The workmanship was superb showing modern form. The surface decoration and exposed pins and joints, iconic to Spratling designs pay homage to the Mexican art and culture. All pieces are sterling marked as shown which date the set to 1964-1967.
